Why Do we Re-Program Automotive Computers

Diagnosing and repairing vehicles often requires reprogramming or re-flashing the vehicle with the latest update.

Re-programming can fix transmission shifting problems, hesitation, rough idle, drivability, check engine lights, emissions quality, poor performance, or any of a number of other problems.

Without the re-flashing capabilities, you may spend time and money trying to repair an issue with hard parts and wasted money that cannot be repaired without a calibration flash update.

A repair shop should have a SAE J2534-1 device to offer their customers flash updates as an up sell, preventative maintenance item. Dealers will wait till this programming update or "error" causes a problem with other components of your vehicle causing you to incur extra costs. Without the new calibration other parts associated with the update may permanently be damaged and require replacement.

THIS IS SOLD AT BOB'S AS A PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE ITEM.

It will vary on cost, as each car will be different, and to how many updates are available.
